Who we are

Lead On (“the app”) is operated by Taylor Made Digital. For any privacy question or request, contact hello@lead-on.app.

What we collect and why

  • Account details — your name, email address and (if you set one) a hashed password, so you can sign in and so your data is kept separate from other people’s.
  • Sign in with Apple or Google — if you choose either, Apple or Google confirms who you are and shares your name and email address with us (with Apple you can hide your real email and we receive a private relay address instead). We store an ID from Apple or Google that links your account to that sign-in, and for Apple a token that lets us cancel the link when you delete your account. We don’t receive your Apple or Google password or anything else from those accounts.
  • Walks and completion history — routes, distances, durations, dates, notes and ratings that you create or import, to provide the core features of the app.
  • Health & fitness data — if you grant permission, we read walking workouts, distance, step count and workout routes from Apple Health to detect and record your completed walks. If you track a walk in the app, we can write that completed walk back to Apple Health. On Android, with your permission, we read walking and hiking exercise sessions, their routes, distance and calories burned from Health Connect, for the same purpose. This data is used only to provide those features. It is never used for advertising or marketing, never sold, and never shared with third parties for their own purposes.
  • Location — while you are tracking a walk (including in the background, if you allow it) we record GPS points to map the route. Your approximate location is also used to sort and filter walks near you. Location is used only for these features.
  • Photos — photos you attach to a walk are uploaded and stored so they appear with that walk.
  • Crash, error and performance reports — if the app crashes or hits an error, a report is sent so we can fix it. We also record how long screens and requests take, so we can find slow parts of the app. These contain technical details (what went wrong, the screen you were on, timings, your device model and iOS version) and your account’s internal ID — not your name, email address, health data or location. For a sample of sessions, and when an error happens, we also keep a masked replay of the screen layout and taps: all text is hidden and photos and maps are blocked, so it never shows what you typed or saw.

Where your data is stored

Your data is held on infrastructure operated by Vercel Inc. — the application and its database, and photo files in Vercel Blob storage. Vercel may process and store this data in the United States and other countries. All traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted with HTTPS, and passwords are stored only as a secure hash.

Sharing

We do not sell your data and we do not share it with advertisers. We rely on a small number of service providers purely to run the app:

  • Vercel — application hosting, database and photo storage.
  • Resend — sends password-reset emails; it receives your email address for that purpose.
  • Google Maps Platform — provides the maps shown in the app. When a map loads or you search for a place, the map request and any search text (which may include your approximate location) are handled by Google. The small route pictures shown for walks are generated by sending the outline of the route to Google’s map image service.
  • Sentry — receives the crash, error and performance reports and masked replays described above, stored in the EU (Germany).
  • Apple and Google — only if you use Sign in with Apple or Google, as described above.
  • OpenStreetMap (Nominatim) — converts coordinates into place names and vice versa; the coordinates or search text you use are sent to it.
  • Postcodes.io — looks up UK postcodes when you set your home location; the postcode you type, or your current coordinates if you choose “Use my current location”, are sent to it to find the area name.

Weather comes from Apple Weather (WeatherKit). To get a forecast we send Apple an approximate location: your home location rounded to roughly 10 km, never your exact address, account or any other identifier. Forecasts are shared by everyone in the same area and kept only until they go out of date. Tide times come from the UK Hydrographic Office for fixed tide stations; nothing about you is sent to fetch them.

Cookies and storage on your device

We store a small amount of data on your device so the app works: your sign-in token so you stay signed in, a copy of recently viewed screens so they load quickly and work with a poor signal, your display settings, and any walk you are currently tracking. This is strictly necessary for the app to function. Signing out removes your sign-in token and cached screens (if you use Face ID to sign in, a copy of the token is kept on the device until you turn Face ID off); deleting the app removes everything. We don’t use advertising, analytics or tracking cookies. When a map is shown, Google Maps may set its own cookies, covered by Google’s privacy policy.

Retention and deletion

Your data is kept for as long as your account exists. You can permanently delete your account and its data at any time from Settings → Delete account in the app. This removes your account, your walks, your completion history, your photos, the route pictures generated for your walks and your notifications from our systems. If you signed in with Apple, we also tell Apple to remove Lead On’s access to your Apple ID. Walks that have been shared with other users are not removed. You can also delete your account from the web or by email; see lead-on.app/delete-account.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data.

Your rights

You can access or correct your data from within the app, or by contacting hello@lead-on.app. You can delete everything using the in-app option described above.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes we will update this page and the “last updated” date above.
